Definition
It expresses the ratio, in a population or an age group, of the male to the female workforce. Also called the masculinity rate, it is expressed as the number of men for 1 woman.
A value less than 1 indicates that women outnumber men. Conversely, a value greater than 1 indicates that there are more men than women.
Formula
Sex-ratio = Number of men / number of women
Example
Number of men: 14
Number of women: 15
Sex ratio: 14/15 = 0.93
So the sex ratio, or masculinity ratio, is 0.93 man for 1 woman.
