Context

You want to estimate the distribution by prescriber and prescriber category of sales volumes extrapolated to the prescription of a selection of products.

If the Hub, to date, does not allow you to view these figures directly on the platform, the Hub nevertheless allows you to calculate them very simply.

It is this calculation which is explained in this article.

The principle is to compare the sales volumes extrapolated on prescription from the OpenHealth panel with the distributions by prescriber from the OpenHealth dispensation observatory.

Pre-requisites

To do this, the user must be able to access the following 2 Hub sheets:

The volume sales studied relate to sales on prescription, you will find information on this type of sale in the following 2 articles:

Limitations

  • PHARMA only

  • Only the prescription volume sales indicator can be estimated

Geographical territories

  • Metropolitan France data

Product scope

  • All products sold in pharmacies on prescription

Operating mode

Step 1 - Recovery of the extrapolated volumes on prescription

From the Market Analysis sheet of the Sales & Marketing subscription, you have the sales volumes on prescription of your product selection over a period of your choice.

To do this, perform the following actions:

  • Select your basket of products to track in the My Query sheet,

  • In the Market Analysis sheet, select your study period, if you want to study several periods simultaneously, you can go through the Sales Evolution sheet,

  • In the sale type selector, select the item With prescription to display sales on prescription only,

  • Choose the indicator VOLUME (in CU) ,

  • In the Market Evolution Details object, you find the prescription volumes in the line Totals and the column N :

  • With a right click you can export the data to Excel.

Step 2 - Recovery of the weights for allocating volumes to prescribers

From the Sales per Channel & Prescriber sheet of the Use & Analytics subscription, you have the breakdowns by category of prescribers and prescribers for the same selection of products and the same time granularity.

To do this, perform the following actions:

  • Select your basket of products to track in the My Query sheet,

  • In the Sales per Channel & Prescriber sheet, select your time granularity (for example Year ),

  • In the Volume% per prescriber and Volume% per Channel graphic objects, you will find in the Market Share tabs, the weights in volume on prescription, respectively for prescribers and categories of prescribers

  • With a right click you can export the data to Excel.

  • In the export data, select the period that interests you (eg 2020 for years)

Step 3 - Estimation of volumes by prescriber

To obtain the volume extrapolated by category or specialty of prescribers, you multiply the total extrapolated volume on prescription (Step 1) by the weight of each modality (Step 2).

You will then obtain the volume on prescription extrapolated from each modality.

Examples

Example 1: Volume by category of prescribers

For our example, our basket of products is sold on prescription at 500,000 boxes over the period studied.

For your period and basket of products, let's say that the distribution by category of prescriber is as follows:

By multiplying the weights of the prescriber categories by the total extrapolated prescription volume, you get your prescription volumes for each prescriber category modality:

Example 2: Volume by specialty of prescribers

For our example, our basket of products is sold on prescription at 500,000 boxes over the period studied.

For your period and basket of products, let's assume that the distribution by prescriber specialty is as follows:

By multiplying the weights of prescriber specialties by the total extrapolated prescription volume, you obtain your prescription volumes for each prescriber specialty modality:
