Definition

The mean age (AVG) is the average of the ages in a population.

It is calculated from the population by age group.
Each age group is assigned an age which corresponds to the middle of the class.

Example

From this age, an average weighted by the number of inhabitants in each class is calculated.

In our example the average age is thus 5.3 years.
